Milky Way Rising

Milky Way Rising

Great Sand Dunes National Park, Colorado • 2015

As darkness settles over the mountains surrounding Great Sand Dunes National Park, the Milky Way rises above the horizon, filling the night sky with color and countless stars. The dark silhouette of the mountains gives way to an immense sky—a quiet reminder of just how small we are beneath it.

Photographed near Alamosa, Colorado, this image captures the scale, solitude, and wonder of a truly dark night in the American West.
